Etymology
editFrom Proto-Vietic *p-seːʔ, from Proto-Austroasiatic *bɕeʔ. Cognate with Chut [Rục] pəseː³, Pacoh pixay, Bahnar phei, Khmer ភេ (phei), Mon ဖေံ (pʰeʔ).
Vietic and Katuic are probably conservative in their preservation of -s- - reflecting ancestral medial -ɕ-, which other branches debuccalized into -h-.
