Usage notes
edit- The term Cikán and its derivatives are often intentionally derogatory and therefore by many considered racist. Consequently, in formal speech the term Rom and its derivatives are used instead (eg romská otázka - the Romany issue). Cikán is still the prevailing term in informal Czech and in historical usage, however (e.g. cikánský baron - a Gypsy baron).
