1. (Northern England) a post in a cowshed for tethering cattle

     Cows are fastened to the iron ring on the ridstake or rudster by a chain, or a cow-band, which is now a rope fastened by a loop and clog (toggle ).

     Inside the barns, the cattle were separated by 'boskins' of timber or stone and tethered to posts known as 'rudsters'.
