1. to separate (move so as to no longer be together)

   De tvingades sära på fångarna ― They were forced to separate the prisoners

   Han särade på benen ― He spread his legs apart

   Läpparna särades ― The lips parted

Usage notes

The preposition på is used before things being actively separated.
