Etymology edit

From Old Norse sløkkva, from Proto-Germanic *slakwjaną. Probably not related to English slake, which originally meant “to weaken”.[1]

Verb edit

slökkva (weak verb, third-person singular past indicative slökkti, supine slökkt)

  1. (with accusative) to extinguish, to put out
    Slökktu á perunum.
    Turn off the lights.
