Etymology edit

From the same Proto-Slavic root *sьrd-, *serd- (middle) found in *sьrdьce (heart) and *serda (Wednesday). Compare Upper Sorbian srjedź, Polish wśród, Slovene srédi, and Russian среди́ (sredí).
