Etymology

From stationner +‎ -ment.

The word has been in use in French for a long time. Only in the sense of "parking lot" or "parking space" is this a Quebecism (originally "parc de stationnement") coined by the Office québécois de la langue française to replace the anglicism "parking" within French in official use.
