From Proto-West Germanic *stiki, from Proto-Germanic *stikiz, whence also Old High German stih (“prick, sting, stitch”), Gothic 𐍃𐍄𐌹𐌺𐍃 (stiks, “point”), Old Frisian stek, steke (“point”) and Old Saxon stiki (“prick, stab”).
