editInherited from Old Polish tęcza, from Proto-Slavic *tǫča. Cognate with Serbo-Croatian ту̏ча/tȕča (“hail”)[1] and Russian ту́ча (túča, “rain cloud”). Compare Lithuanian tánkus (“dense”).
