EtymologyEdit

From Proto-Slavic *tǫča. Probably cognate with Serbo-Croatian ту̏ча/tȕča (hail)[1] and Russian ту́ча (túča, rain cloud)[1]. Compare Lithuanian tánkus (dense) and ancient Greek τόξον ‎(tóxon, “bow”), whence tangent (homophone).
