From *tätwə, from Proto-Ugric *täjə-ktəm[1] (cf. Mansi такэм ‎(takəm), Khanty тевтәм ‎(tewtəm)), from Proto-Finno-Ugric [Term?] *täje ‎(louse).[2] Cognates include Finnish täi.
