From Proto-Celtic *tegoslougom, from Proto-Celtic *tegos (“house”) + Proto-Celtic *slougos (“troup, army”), equivalent to tŷ + llu. Compare Cornish teylu, Irish teaghlach, Scottish Gaelic teaghlach, Manx lught thie.
