Particularly: “Many Siyi Yue lects have prenasalized stops for historically purely nasal initial words. Tan (2017), using Zhang & Cheung (1987), lists ndu for Taishanese.”

Compare the synonymous trả nũa, which is now mostly obsolete.

The second syllable bears some resemblance with the element đoá (as in nổi đoá (to become enraged)). If these elements (or at least one of these) were borrowed from (MC nuH), they might originated from historical Sinitic lect(s) with prenasalized stops.
