Inherited from Proto-Slavic *vъdati. By surface analysis, v- +‎ dáti.

Verb

vdáti pf (imperfective vdávati)

1. (transitive) to marry (to give away a woman as a wife)

   Vdasta svoju dceř za súsědova syna.

   They married their daughter to the neighbour's son.

2. (reflexive with sě) to marry (of woman, to take a husband)

   Jejú dci sě vda za súsědova syna.

   Their daughter married the neighbour's son.

3. (transitive) to give, to hand in

   Tak rozhněvav sě jeho pán, vda jej katóm.

   So his master having got angry gave him to the executioners.
