EtymologyEdit

From Old French vignoble (also latinised as vinoblium). According to the most widely accepted theory from Old Occitan vinhobre, from Vulgar Latin *vineoporus, from Ancient Greek ἀμπελoφόρος (ampelophóros, bearing vines) by substitution of the component word ἄμπελος (ámpelos, vine) with native Latin vinea. However, there are several other theories, for which compare the article cited below.
