RomanianEdit

EtymologyEdit

From Latin jacēre, iacēre, present active infinitive of iaceō ‎(lie prostrate), from Proto-Italic *jakēō. The shift from the expected initial 'j' in Romanian to 'z' is due to dissimilation from the following consonant.
