  1. (computing) In a zombie state (said either of a zombie process or of a computer covertly controlled by malware).

      A process that is unable to continue executing and cannot exit the system is zombied. A zombied process does not use any system resources but it still maintains an entry in the process table.
    • 2011, James M. Stewart, CompTIA Security+ Review Guide: Exam SY0-301, page 133:
      In this manner, the victim may be able to discover the one or many zombied systems that are causing the DoS attack but probably won't be able to track down the actual attacker.
