Ancient Greek edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-Indo-European *dʰgʷʰh₂- (to come near, nearly reach, pass).[1] Cognate with Sanskrit धग्नु (dhagnu).

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “What exactly is Sanskrit "dhag-nu-"? Cursory search suggests that धग्नु, in this spelling, doesn't exist; however, it is mentioned by Beekes as cognate to φθάνω.”
