Phono-semantic compound (形聲形声, OC *ɡluːlʔ) : semantic (altar; sacrifice; deity) + phonetic (OC *kloːlʔ). In early writing, the form was more readily seen as ideogrammic (會意会意) , showing components resembling (“libation container”) or (“libation container”) variously combined with radicals depicting the hand.
