- A denominal suffix for captative verbs, i.e. verbs for hunting or catching animals or picking plants. For example:
- A denominal suffix comparable to ize/-ise to make, to make into:
- vahva (“strong”) → vahvistaa (“to strengthen”)
- toinen (“second”) → toistaa (“to repeat”)
- kaksinkertainen (“double”) → kaksinkertaistaa (“to double”)
- tosi (“real”) → todistaa (“to verify”)
- into (“zeal”) → innostaa (“to inspire”)
- valmis (“prepared”) → valmistaa (“to prepare”)
- aineellinen (“corporeal”) → aineellistaa (“materialize”)
- Occasionally used for other purposes, either as to apply a tool onto:

- Causative aspect of rohkaista-type verbs.
