Welcome

edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

 • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
 • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
 • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
 • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
 • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
 • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
 • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary!

This will display the entries that you have created. --Romanophile (contributions) 10:39, 15 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Templates and formatting

edit

All English nouns should use en-noun. Alternative forms should use . Do not try to duplicate these templates with your own formatting. Please respond to this message. DTLHS (talk) 15:47, 3 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

You are continuing to create badly formatted entries and have not acknowledged that you've read this message. —CodeCat 01:56, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I understand this now, I just found it confusing to figure out. Lincoln1001 (talk) 06:37, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

SI units

edit

Do you have any evidence that units like zeptoampere and zettampere have been used? The box "Wiktionary does not have any Translingual dictionary entry for this term. This is most likely because this term does not meet our criteria for inclusion yet." was there for a reason. DTLHS (talk) 17:20, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

They are included on Wikipedia (1), the Appendix: SI units page on Wiktionary and on 2. Also, there is the page 3 on Wiktionary which is obviously a cognate of the English zeptoampere. I assume three sources is adequate. Lincoln1001 (talk) 17:41, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Not exactly. We require three uses of the term: see for example Google books (no use), or Google scholar (it looks like "zeptoampere" can be cited using papers from here- see my changes). I don't think "zettampere" will pass though. DTLHS (talk) 17:46, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Please read this carefully: Wiktionary:Criteria_for_inclusion#Attestation. Citations must be durably archived. We cannot quote ourselves, so we cannot take quotations from Wiktionary or Wikipedia. Citations must use the word- another dictionary defining a word does not count. None of your citations at Citations:attocandela and Citations:zettaampere meet these criteria. Like I said, try to find uses (not mentions) in books or scholarly papers. DTLHS (talk) 22:43, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Kalasha entries

edit

I've had to fix every Kalasha entry that you've created so far. Please pay heed to what I have changed. —CodeCat 15:54, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

In particular head does not convert adj to adjectives, you need to write adjective or adjectives. Renard Migrant (talk) 18:47, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
You need to edit the entries in Category:Kalasha adjs to use "adjective" instead of "adj". DTLHS (talk) 01:09, 25 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

souvlakia

edit

I believe this is a plural, not a singular. Thoughts? Equinox 16:22, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

It probably is, at least the Greek plural. Perhaps souvlakia is also a variant spelling, or maybe Anglicised as such so it is interpreted in that way; Wikipedia says that souvlakia is the plural. Lincoln1001 (talk) 16:30, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Attestability

edit

You are not being careful at all in your entries. You are adding things that do not appear to be attestable per our policies (essentially, can't be found used in three books or magazines). You are adding synonyms as "alternative spellings". Please stop, look over what you are doing, and ask if you need help. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:53, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Formatting

edit

When you create entries, please don't put spaces around the names of headers, per WT:NORM. It should be ===Noun=== and not === Noun ===. —CodeCat 16:38, 7 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Uthlus

edit

Hi. You've created Uthlus as plural of Uthulu. It seems more logical that there are two separate spellings, Uthlu and Uthulu, each with an -s plural. What do you think? Equinox 21:48, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

 1. Yes, I think you are correct. Lincoln1001 (talk) 21:49, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
