Here’s an idea for a focus week: homographs of a much more common word. Words like primate (archbishop), mother (cat that catches moths), alligator (one who binds) and gamergate (worker insect). — Ungoliant (falai) 04:38, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds interesting. Can you find another three more for a full week? When would you propose that this be run? Smuconlaw (talk) 09:09, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can’t think of any other, but I’ll keep an eye out (actually, I know of catholic (lover of cats), but I’ve been unable to cite it). In the meanwhile, other people are free to suggest more words. I have no specific week in mind; whenever you want to run it. Cheers. — Ungoliant (falai) 15:55, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What about around the April Fools' Day period next year? If that sounds good, I'll move this discussion down to the "April" subsection below. Smuconlaw (talk) 10:59, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That’s a great idea. — Ungoliant (falai) 22:14, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ungoliant MMDCCLXIV: OK, I've relocated the discussion here. By the way, is there an animal theme to this proposal? Smuconlaw (talk) 21:34, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily. It’s just a coincidence that the examples I could remember are animal-related. — Ungoliant (falai) 22:14, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Another one: beer (one who is or exists). — Ungoliant (falai) 22:22, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
sewer (one who sews), teenage (brushwood for fences and hedges), recover (to cover again). — Ungoliant (falai) 22:44, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
irony (resembling iron), apply (resembling apples). — Ungoliant (falai) 21:59, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ungoliant MMDCCLXIV: OK, I have set the words indicated above for 28–31 March and 1–3 April 2016, the week of April Fools' Day. I'll leave it to you to renominate apply and irony as ordinary "Words of the day" on the main page, if you wish. Smuconlaw (talk) 13:51, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused. You created a nomination, and then opposed your own nomination? Well ... OK. Unless there are any other comments, I'll delete this nomination in two days' time. Smuconlaw (talk) 20:38, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Withdrawn by nominator. Smuconlaw (talk) 10:54, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
