From Proto-Indo-European *h₂énteros.[1] Cognate with Latvian ùotrs (“second”), Old Prussian antars (“second, other”), Proto-Slavic *vъ(n)torъ, Proto-Germanic *anþeraz, Sanskrit अन्तर (ántara).
