From Middle High German gelimpflich, from Old High German gilimphlīh, from Proto-West Germanic [Term?]. Cognate with Middle Low German gelimplīk, Old English ġelimplīċ. Derived from the obsolete noun Glimpf + -lich; compare Unglimpf.
