From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *udəhi (“last; come after or behind; late”) with metathesis. Cognate with Ilocano udi, Bikol Central huri, Cebuano ulhi, ulahi, Maranao ori, Malay udi (“back, subsequent”), and Balinese uri (“back; be behind”).
