From Ottoman Turkish چكنمك(çekinmek, to draw back and recoil, through fear, scruple or dislike)[1], from Ottoman Turkish چكمك(çekmek, to pull, to draw, to attract), from Proto-Turkic *ček- (to pull, to drive towards oneself)[2][3], morphologically çek- +‎ -in +‎ -gen.
