Romanian edit

Etymology edit

Probably from a Vulgar Latin verb *inclagāre (compare Aromanian ncljeg, ncljigari), from metathesis of *incoāglāre (compare Romansch inquaglier), from *incoāgulāre, intensive of Latin coagulāre (compare French cailler, Italian cagliare), present active infinitive of coagulō. Alternatively, simply from Vulgar Latin *clagāre < coāgulāre, with the prefix în- added later in Romanian (and therefore a doublet of coagula, a borrowing).

Verb edit

a închega (third-person singular present încheagă, past participle închegat) 1st conj.

  1. to curdle, thicken, condense, coagulate
  2. to clog
