editFrom Proto-Vietic *taŋʔ (“bitter”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kt₂aŋ (“bitter”). Cognate with Bahnar tăng (“bitter”), Pacoh atáng (“bitter”), Khasi kthang (“bitter”), Bolyu tɕaŋ⁵³ and Mon က္တၚ် (kətɛŋ, “bitter”).
