Etymology

From Arabic زَرْزَرَ (zarzara), related with زَرْزُور (zarzūr, starling, some of whose cries resemble insects’ chirring or buzzing). Compare also Moroccan Arabic سرسر (sarsar). Ultimately onomatopoeic.
