Etymology edit
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Burmese သောက် (sauk, “drink”), Old Chinese 漱 (OC *sloːɡs, *srus)("to gargle; to rinse"), Garo sok (“breast”), and Nusu ʂu̱⁵⁵ (“drink”). Compare with Lhao Vo shaug , Zaiwa shuq, and Longchuan Achang ʂoʔ⁵⁵.
