Along with the cedilla⟨◌̧⟩ and the overstruck tilde⟨◌̴⟩, the ogonek is one of the few diacritics that graphically connects with a letter and is used productively in Unicode, rather than there being a separate Unicode character for each combination of letter and diacritic.
