Latin Aetna, in turn from either Ancient Greek Αἴτνη (Aítnē, Aetna) or αἴθω (aíthō, I burn), or from a Sicanian dialect Italic base *aith-na (fiery one), all from Proto-Indo-European *ai-dh, from *h₂eydʰ- (burn; fire).
