Etymology edit

From Proto-Scythian *Šaθraka, sibilisation of an older Iranian *Xšaθraka (literally reigning),[1][2][3] from Proto-Iranian *xšaθram (literally reign, kingdom) (from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kšatrám) + *-kah (suffix) (from Proto-Indo-Iranian *-kas), whence also Ossetian Ӕхсӕртӕггaтӕ (Æxsærtæggatæ).[4]
