From Katharevousa ἅπαξ λεγόμενον, as with the ancient adverb ἅπαξ (hápax, “once”) and the neuter of the participle λεγόμενος (legómenos, “being said”) of λέγω (légō, “I say”), from the Latin term; see hapax legomenon.
