Etymology edit

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀβγατίζω < ἐβγατίζω (ebgatízō), ultimately from the Hellenistic ἐκβατός (ekbatós, coming to pass) from the ancient verb ἐκβαίνω (ekbaínō, step out from; be produced). There is no relation to αβγό (avgó, egg).[1]
