Etymology

Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ἀγκυλωτός (ankulōtós), from stem ἀγκυλω- of verb ἀγκυλόω (ankulóō, crook, bend) with ending -τός (-tós), from ἀγκύλος (ankúlos, curved).[1] Semantic loan from German Hakenkreuz.[2]
