Inherited from Byzantine Greek κλεισούρα (kleisoúra), from Late Latin clausūra with folk-etymological conversion of Latin claudō, claus- to κλείνω, κλείσ- (kleíno, kleís-) +‎ -ούρα‎ (-oúra‎).[1]
