Etymology edit

From Proto-Indo-European *ḱlewH-. From the same root, we can find κλύδων (klúdōn, billow). Other cognates are Latin cluō (I clean, purge), Gothic 𐌷𐌻𐌿𐍄𐍂𐍃 (hlūtrs, clean, pure) and Welsh clir (clean, pure).
