Learned borrowing from Koine Greek κοινόβιον (koinóbion),[1] neuter of κοινόβιος (koinóbios).[2] Morphologically κοινό- (koinó-, common) +‎ βί(ος) (ví(os), life) + suffix for neuters -ο.
