By the long -ύ- and enlarged -κ-, suggested by Beekes to be a Pre-Greek word, but for Bernal this is from Egyptian qꜣ ḫrw (loud voice), both rejecting the frequent comparison to Sanskrit कारु (kāru, singer, poet).
