πίγγαλος
Ancient Greek
editEtymology
editThe word has been compared with Sanskrit पिङ्गल (piṅgala, “reddish brown”) and with πίγγαν (píngan, “nestling, chick”). The etymology remains unknown, however the presence of the prenasalization and the suffix -αλ- could lead to a Pre-Greek etymology.
