Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek παράρτημα (parártēma, “appendage”) and a semantic loan from French supplément or annexe.[1] From παραρτάω (parartáō), παρ- (par-) + ἀρτάω (artáō) + -μα (-ma).
