Etymology Edit

From τέρπω (térpō, I satisfy) +‎ -σῐς (-sis). Diachronically from Proto-Indo-European *térptis (fulfillment, satisfaction); cognate with Sanskrit तृप्ति (tṛ́pti, satisfaction, delight) and Proto-Germanic *þurftiz (need).
