Literally, belonging to (son of) the 'kalach-man', where кала́ч (kaláč) is the Russian word for a specific type of twisted white bread. From кола́ч (koláč) (through akanye), from Proto-Slavic *kolačь, a derivation of *kolo (circle, wheel). Cognate to Ukrainian and Bulgarian кола́ч (koláč), Serbo-Croatian kòlač, Slovak and Czech koláč, Polish kołacz.
