Inherited from Old East Slavic болого (bologo), from Proto-Slavic *bolgo. Doublet of бла́го (blágo), which was borrowed from Old Church Slavonic. Probably cognate with Sanskrit बृहस्पति (bṛhaspati), Avestan 𐬠𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬔 (bərəg), Avestan 𐬠𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬘𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (bərəjaiieiti).
