бязь (bjazʹ)

  1. (Taraškievica orthography) Alternative form of без (bjez): without
Jon minúŭ sjelʹsavjét z paníklym bjazʹ vjétru sʹcjáham, maljénʹkuju adnapavjarxóvuju škólku, začýnjenuju záraz na vakácyi.
He passed by a village council building, with its flag hanging limp without wind, and a small one-storey school building, currently closed due to vacations.

Usage notes edit

The Taraškievica spelling is faithful to phonetics and the original word без may transform accordingly to reflect this:

  1. The letter "е" changes to "я" if the adjacent next word starts from a stressed syllable.
  2. The soft sign "ь" may be appended to indicate the assimilating palatalization if the adjacent next word starts from a 'soft' (palatalized) consonant or a palatalizing vowel ("і", "е", "я", "ю" or "ё").
