Cognate with Lithuanian žióti (to open (the mouth) wide) (first singular žióju) žióvauti (to yawn), Latvian žàvât (to yawn), Ancient Greek χαίνω (khaínō, to yawn), χάσκω (kháskō, to yawn), Latin hiāre (to yawn), Sanskrit विहायस् (vihāyas, airspace).
