Inherited from Old East Slavic пьпьрьць (pĭpĭrĭcĭ), from пьпьрь (pĭpĭrĭ, “pepper”) + -ьць (-ĭcĭ), from Proto-Slavic *pьpьrь. Cognate with English pepper.
