editInherited from Old East Slavic подъшьва (podŭšĭva, “sole (bottom); foundation”),[1] from Proto-Slavic *podъšьva, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *šiti (“to sew”). Compare Russian подо́шва (podóšva), Belarusian падэ́шва (padéšva), Polish podeszwa.
