Proto-Turkic *tạnu- (“to know, get to know”).[1]
Cognate with Kazakh тану (tanu), Kumyk танымакъ (tanımaq), Kyrgyz тааны- (taanı-), Southern Altai таны- (tanï-), Uzbek tanimoq, Khakas таны- (tanı-), Tuvan таны- (tanı-), Turkish tanımak (“know somebody, recognize”).
