editFrom Proto-Mordvinic *tevə~*ťevə, from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *tewe, whence Finnish työ, Veps tö, Livonian tīe.
Can be reanalyzed as derivative from теемс (ťejems) with -в (-v) suffix, mostly unproductive.
